so why'd you come home to this faithless town BACKGROUNDChloe Decker is a homicide detective with the Los Angeles Police Department. Born and raised in LA, Chloe had a unique upbringing as a child actor, a role imparted on her by her demanding mother. However, when Chloe's father was murdered when she was 19, she gave up acting to instead pursue a passion she felt was more meaningful and followed in his footsteps to become a police officer. She works with Lucifer Morningstar, who became her consultant and partner after they met on a case. Since Chloe had recently spoken out about a fellow officer she believed was corrupt, she had been ostracized by the department, and found a camaraderie with Lucifer that she couldn't find anywhere else. He proved to be a capable partner and, later, a good friend who she eventually began to develop complicated, romantic feelings for. Chloe has a daughter, Beatrice (Trixie), and currently resides with Mazikeen, a friend of Lucifer's who now works as a bounty hunter for the LAPD. She shares custody of Trixie with her ex-husband, fellow police officer Dan Espinoza. Canon Point: SKILLS AND CONTRIBUTIONWhat skills does your character bring to the situation? While Chloe hasn't ever had to functionally develop survival skills, she does have some physical skills she can offer to certain situations. She is a police officer and trained with weapons and some hand-to-hand self-defense techniques. While her more physical traits haven't been showcased in the canon very often, we do get the impression that she has a fair amount of physical strength and she's extremely confident in the use of firearms. However, the lack of more modern weapons in 6I will have an effect on her ability to defend herself (and others), and physicality is not her preferred choice of action. More importantly to her is her ability to use words to diffuse and manipulate situations. Chloe avoids physical conflict whenever possible because she believes that compassion plays a larger role in connecting with others, even those who wish to do her harm. This is more often than not extremely successful for her, as she has talked down anyone from armed suspects to her own roommate through connecting with them on a personal level. As a skill, this is probably Chloe's most important to offer - empathy. She is a character that is very aware of the feelings of others, and she knows that the majority of people, even those who are the most downtrodden or angry, have their reasons for feeling the way that they do. This isn't a skill she utilizes simply in the field, either; it is a huge part of her parenting techniques with her daughter as well as how she interacts with her friends. Chloe isn't beyond even offering personal information in times of crisis if she thinks it will help diffuse the situation, such as exposing she is a parent in hopes of appealing to other peoples' humanity. While Chloe does not fall into an exclusive archetype, she could often be associated with the mentor, as she consistently offers guidance or a summary of whatever "morality lesson" can be associated with any given episode, generally as the B plots often intersect with the A plots in the show. Her ability to encourage and bring out people's true emotions through her compassion is a unique asset of hers and, while not entirely unlike Lucifer's abilities, is done through human connection rather than divine power. This skill could prove to be useful in her gameplay either through her interpersonal relationships or through more combative situations that have the option of not becoming physical if characters are given the option to talk someone down. Why did you choose this specific character for 6I, and how do you picture them fitting into the game? I've been playing Chloe for a while in one game, and I feel like 6I could prove to be a good challenge for her, as it will launch her completely out of her comfort zone. Chloe is used to creature comforts and, perhaps more importantly, is often characterized by her role as a mother and her role as a law enforcement officer. Putting her in a position where she does not have access to the things that would normally define her will force her to reevaluate herself in a way that she hasn't had the opportunity to before. Chloe is very routine-oriented, organized, and often carries a black-and-white outlook on the world. However, she is also filled with self-doubt and low self-esteem, and she often feels lost in the life she's chosen for herself. Not only will 6I offer more physical demands she isn't used to, but it will also make her redefine her concept of community and make her discover different ways to contribute to those around her that isn't purely reliant on her passion for justice and order. Hopefully, it will also challenge how she looks at herself and give her the opportunity for growth and awareness that she often struggles to find in canon. How do you imagine your character will survive in 6I, and in what ways will they contribute to the settlement, if any? After she first arrives, Chloe will feel like she's going to do just fine on her own. She isn't particularly fond of relying on other people, which is a bit of a contradiction because she is a good team player. However, she is hesitant to reach out to other people and often exhibits difficulty in trusting friends and family due to betrayals she has experienced in the past and ostracization she experienced at work. She has come a long way recently, however, and has started to develop deeper, more trusting relationships with others. This will, hopefully, guide her to trust others in the settlement and become a part of the community. Once she starts to feel like she belongs, she will likely become more impassioned to contribute in ways that she feels like she can. Due to her background, this will involve learning new skills, and she will also want to be more proactive in finding ways to help the community in structured, organized ways. She will probably get involved with one of the local initiatives that she feels will contribute to the community at large. HOW WILL SHE REACT TO...Being separated, possibly permanently, from loved ones and their previous life, including loss of powers, if applicable? The most debilitating loss that Chloe will experience is being separated from her daughter. Trixie is an integral part of her life not only because of her bond to her but also because she offers Chloe daily stability and routine. It is incredibly important to Chloe to constantly think of her daughter's well-being and safety, and she also learns valuable lessons from her interactions with her daughter. It is going to be devastating to Chloe to find herself in a place where she can't see Trixie, but it will also offer her opportunities to make choices that will in no way affect her daughter. While Trixie is Chloe's primary relationship, she will also miss her friends - Ella, Dan, Maze, and Linda. This will hit her hard because Chloe has never been good at making friends and the ones she has made by this point in her canon are extremely important to her. For a long time, her only priorities were her daughter and her job, and it is made clear on a few occasions that Chloe isn't always adept at reaching out to people, so the fact that she has formed such strong bonds (particularly with Ella and Maze) is incredibly important to her. Being without most of her friends and her daughter, mixed with losing the stability of her job and her home life, will be difficult for Chloe. She'll likely become depressed and withdrawn for a while, and will no doubt suffer some crisis of being because her support system has dissolved so quickly. Chloe does bounce back pretty well, though, and will probably throw herself into her new life after a while so she doesn't have to dwell on the people that she misses. As a side-note, the loss of Chloe's powers will not affect her as they rely on Lucifer. She doesn't know her presence makes him mortal and thus will not notice the absence of that ability. His power of persuasion never affected her to begin with, so while she might notice that no one else seems to respond to it anymore (as he's lost that ability), it will not change anything for her directly. Their environment being manipulated, possibly in strange or extraordinary ways, and possibly in ways which restrain them? Chloe will be both angry and somewhat amazed at changes and manipulations to the environment. She won't be happy about being restrained or being unable to predict or control what is going on around her, however. She will also likely spend some time trying to deny anything going on around her; Chloe has a tendency to ignore or justify things that do not fit into her world view, often to the point that it becomes stubborn and skirts willful ignorance. This is most obviously reflected in how she responds to Lucifer, that even though she has seen him do some strange things she can't explain, she rejects the fact that he may be telling the truth in order to not challenge her perception of reality. Eventually, however, she will be forced to accept that what is happening around her is real. That said, being an investigator at heart, she will definitely try to figure out everything that is going on all of the time, and she can be a little stubborn when it comes to that. Which is too bad for her. Being physically and/or mentally manipulated, such as having hallucinations or suddenly possessing special abilities they did not have before? Similarly to how she'd react to her environment being manipulated, it will piss her off. Chloe will never be okay with losing any sense of control or autonomy over herself and her own actions. Notably, being the only human character in her canon who can't be manipulated by Lucifer's abilities, she has taken for granted the fact that she doesn't know what it's like to be manipulated in any obvious way. Again, her way of overcoming this will likely involve her trying to find out as much as she can to try to prevent it from happening, even if she is doomed to fail. Developing new powers will be extremely strange for her, and she will probably in denial about it for a while. Eventually, she'll accept it and decide that having powers is kind of cool, especially if it's something that can help other people or be useful in a variety of situations.
