damon's bar is about to close for the evening. the man himself is by the bar, taking last minute orders. chloe and elena aren't worried. they can stick around long after the bar has closed, because elena is dating damon and chloe is their friend. another perk: all the nachos they want. it's been a while since chloe and elena had a gab fest, and naturally, she is curious about chloe's newfound relationship status. ) You have to tell me everything.

[ Chloe was relieved when Elena offered after hours at Damon's - it gave them some privacy, from the rest of the mansion and especially from Lucifer. Not that Chloe is hiding anything from him (at least, not anymore), but the last thing she wants to do is gush about her excitement and her trepidation within earshot.

Luckily, dating Lucifer makes him no more and no less clingy than he was before they started dating. And he never was the type to discourage her from having fun. ]

( she's teasing, and it becomes obvious in the grin that starts to tug on her lips.

honestly, it's just so nice to see chloe like this, like that heavy weight that'd set down on her is starting to lift. elena had been worried the last couple of times they talked, but now it's like -- the sun came up and it's a brand new day.

elena reaches for another chip, and looks over to her friend thoughtfully. ) What changed?

[ Chloe tilts her head, lowering the chip from her lips thoughtfully. Elena is right; even Chloe can feel it. It's still hard, and she still misses Trixie. She hasn't quite worked through everything yet. The burden is still there, but it's a little easier for her to carry with Lucifer's help. ]

This is going to sound insane but... It didn't. It did, but it didn't. I don't know.

[ She laughs, leaning back in her chair and staring at Elena. ] He died in my memory, Elena. And when he did, he asked his father to save me. Lucifer told Him that he would do anything he had to do if it meant I would live. When Lucifer told me that, I... It made me realize that what we've felt for each other has been there for a lot longer than either of us even realized. I always thought I kind of wore him down by refusing to sleep with him all those months and that's why he wanted to actually date me but I think he honestly loved me by then. I think we've loved each other for a while now and it just seemed pointless to keep ignoring it. [ Chloe puts her chip in her mouth, chewing thoughtfully. ] I sound like a raving lunatic, don't I?

( it's not surprising to elena that lucifer would think to make such a sacrifice.

wonderland once put them in a terrible circumstance, sending them both to hell. lucifer only had one coin, and he made sure it was elena's soul that was spared. if he did that for her, then she can only imagine the lengths he would go to for chloe. )

You don't sound like a lunatic. You sound like someone that's seeing things clearly now that the fog has lifted.

( after all, nothing chloe is saying sounds like new information to her. )

You're just finally seeing what the rest of us have for a while now.

[ For as selfish as he could be, Chloe would always argue that when push came to shove, Lucifer always put those he cared about before him. She had no doubt he would lay down his life for Elena in the same way he had Chloe, more times than she could really count at that point. It was part of what made him so frustrating and yet so special, at least to Chloe. ]

Has it really been that obvious to everyone else?

( someone else would probably soften the truth of it all by trying to protest to the contrary, but elena replies with a simple and deadpanned: )

Chloe snorts, shaking her head. ]

I'm worried though, you know? With the history we have and, let's face it, Lucifer isn't exactly the most reliable person on a good day, never mind the fact that he's never had an actual relationship before. After what I went through with my ex... I just want it to work out this time, you know?

( elena grins to match chloe's snort, but it isn't long before her expression is softening, and she is placing her hand on top of lucifer's. ) Of course I do. And that's how I know that it will work. ( so long as they both keep wanting it to work. so long as they keep choosing each other. )

Every relationship is its own language, separate from the rest. Lucifer isn't your ex; you're not the person you were when you married to Dan. And ... Lucifer is not a conventional man, which probably means you guys won't have a conventional relationship. But that's not a bad thing. You can find what works for you guys as you go along. Sometimes that's part of the adventure.

( she speaks from experience ok. )

[ Elena's experience is part of the reason Chloe turns to her for guidance when it comes to Lucifer. She understands what it's like to love someone who isn't human and who hasn't exactly made the best choices in his life. She knows what it's like to be a mortal wrapped up in a world mortals shouldn't belong (even if she isn't mortal anymore, she knows). ]

I guess that's something I need to keep in mind. He isn't Dan. [ She cracks a smile again. ] He's way more narcissistic, but he does dress better.

What did it take? For you and Damon to get things to the point where they worked?
